These days, I'm trying to read one book a week or at least in two weeks.
Although reading isn't explicitly related to my Youtube project, since I like reading, and actually am going to incorporate my passion to read into my videos, I want to connect a quote from a book I'm reading each week with my reflection. This week, I'm reading David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell: it talks about the advantages of being underdogs and ways to defeat Goliaths and Davids in general. One of the quotes that touched me was about the origin of courage, if there is one. The reason I said, "if there is one" implies that the book suggests that courage has no place that it comes form. In fact, Gladwell says, "[c]ourage is not something that you already have that makes you brave when the tough times start." "Courage is what you earn when you've been through the tough times and you discover they aren't so tough after all." As I am more "free" time as the second semester of senior year came, I'm trying to explore new things. For instance, I'm learning German from March and has started getting my driver license. (I passed the first test! YAY~~~) I'm not sure if this goes under the category of exploring new things, but I will count as one since it's my first experience. One of my first college acceptances came out a few days ago as well. Although it was my safety school, the fact that it came with scholarship gave me hope for upcoming results. I used to say this phrase often and am pretty sure you, a reader, has said this at least once last week: "I'm so busy." It was more of a habit for me to say that I am always busy and that I had too much school work to finish. It is true that I am in this ever-stopping waterfall of assignments that our school is pouring on. Although it is tough and stressful, I have to admit that it was my choice be in that waterfall. I was my choice to take those AP classes and Honors class, knowing that I would have a lot of work. I've heard many people say senior year is just a pass-or-fail year and you probably won't have that much work to do. However, it always depends on your situations! Honestly, my senior year is not THAT different from my junior year. (Actually, my first semester was the busiest 6 months in my life.) However, what I can confidently say is that I've learned and improved on how to deal with this business. In the midst of assignments and projects, I'm trying to explore more and experience various aspects of life. Just like how Gladwell says courage comes from nowhere, I think the mindset to feel less busy and time to find new things doesn't come from a certain set of things. I learned that sometimes you just have to let go of a few things and focus on the present moments to be happier and more relaxed. Maybe I can change the quote from the book to: "Happiness is not something that is outside of you that you have to chase for. Happiness is what you already have in your life but what you're seemingly missing. "
